Regular eye examinations allow optometrists to keep a thorough check on patients’ ocular health, helping to prevent sight loss and improving vision.
Optometrists check for many different eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. In many cases treatment can be provided and the optometrist will refer patients to their GP or hospital.
Sometimes the optometrist may wish to monitor a patient’s eyes without referring to a medical practitioner, for example if there is a mild cataract. In any case it’s important to gain a regular evaluation of the health of one’s eyes. |
